We are pleased to announce that The Albion High School has just been declared the latest Specialist College in Salford, specialising in Maths and Computing. The Albion will be one of just five schools across Salford and Manchester to be designated a Maths & Computing specialist.

This is excellent news for the school and for its local community. It brings £100,000 a year of extra funding that will enable us to do even more work to boost the learning opportunities not only of our own pupils and their families but also of others in and around this area.
The news comes in the same week as confirmation that our contextual value-added (CVA) last summer was in the top 20% nationally for the second year running, meaning that our students do better in their exams than most similar students in similar schools up and down the country.

As a result of this designation we will be able to upgrade our ICT resources, employ additional staff to help children with their learning, and put on special events which will encourage children and adults of all ages to enjoy learning about numbers and computers.

The Head teacher Steve Aveyard said "It has not been easy to achieve this award, but staff have worked very hard to do their best for our children, and the quality of their work and of the pupils' results has now been recognised. This will be a great boost to the local area, bringing new resources for learning and helping children to succeed."

Chair of Governors Peter Wilson said "I have been on the governing body here for a number of years, and since the new building opened I have seen The Albion High School go from strength to strength. Everyone here is really focused on how to help our local youngsters to get the best out of themselves, and this funding means that we can now do even more in the wider community."

Head of Maths Ms Chris Smith said "This award is the culmination of 18 months of planning and preparation, building on the good results that our young people already achieve in Maths. It has been well worth the effort in order to get more support for our aim to give local children the best education we possibly can.

Head of ICT Anne Robinson said "It is excellent news. When we moved into the new building with its 'state of the art' resources, we never imagined that we would be able to have even better resources five years down the line. We are already in the forefront of the new Diploma qualifications, and these extra resources will allow us to do even more exciting learning in the years ahead."

Albion's Director of Services, Joe Gallagher, said "We are all very pleased that we have been able to show that we, and our local community, really deserve this award. We already provide community learning and leisure activities on site - now we can aim to give an even better service to our local people."
